Strawberries, or Fragaria x ananassa, are the ideal fruit to try growing in the garden. As an ornamental plant they produce small, pretty flowers in May and attractive red fruit in summer. These low-growing plants hardly take up any space, they are easy to maintain and the delicious fruit can be eaten straight from the plant.

Strawberry plants have a trailing habit that makes them ideal for growing in containers or hanging baskets. The plants are cheap and it is easy to propagate lots more of them.
